The Microsoft Surface Pro is a Windows 2-in-1 detachable-hybrid tablet. It comes with smooth and sleek matte silver/platinum-colored magnesium alloy body. The edges of the shell are subtly round with the vents which is designed so that it looked thin.
This hybrid tablet has some additional parts, the keyboard cover and pen, which are optional and sold separately. You can add this optional parts to work with the Surface Pro, but the absence of them will not disturb the performance of this detachable tablet.
Microsoft Surface Pro comes available with a wide range of configurations and prices, from basic model up to top-notch version with the prices at Amazon from $748.90 up to $2,419.00 (prices at this writing). And what makes them different to each other is the processor, graphics card, system memory and storage space.
In this review, we will talk about the Microsoft Surface Pro with Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB at the price of $1,983.00 as at this writing.
All the Microsoft Surface Pros come with the 7th generation Intel processors. They are Intel Core m3, Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7.
The Intel Core m3 is a very power efficient dual-core processor which is designed especially for passively cooled tablets and 2-in-1 notebooks. It is low power processor but still able to process daily basic tasks.
The Intel Core i5 is a ULV (ultra low voltage) dual core processor with strong processing performance. This processor is usually used by mid-range laptop and has enough power to work with office and multimedia purposes also more demanding applications and multitasking.
The Intel Core i7 a fast dual-core processor for notebooks. The performance is quite enough for most demanding tasks. Making photo, video, and 3D applications will run faster. It also gives you the ability to play more PC games.
To save space, all the Microsoft Surface Pros do not use discrete graphics cards. They use the graphics cards which come integrated with the Intel processors. The Intel Core m3 has Intel HD Graphics 615 and Intel Core i5 owns Intel HD Graphics 620 while Intel Core i7 come with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640.
The system memory and storage space which are utilized by Surface Pro is also various. The system memory options are 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB RAM, while the storage space alternatives which are used Solid-State Drive are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB.

There is 12.3″ screen panel comes with the Surface Pro. This is a screen with a resolution of 2,736 x 1,824 pixels and the pixel density of 267 ppi.
This screen is brilliant so text and graphics seemed so clear and smooth. The color is also vivid. It is a 10-point multitouch screen and supports native pen.
This detachable screen has a ratio of 3:2 which is closer to the size of a sheet of paper. This ratio was started by Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and today becomes trend and followed by many much of the competition. The reason is because a tablet with this ratio will be felt more natural to hold compare to the 16:9 screen which is longer. This ratio is great as well for watching video; however you will get black bars on the screen due to its 3:2 aspect ratio.
The options of port are few, can be understood because of the limited surface around the Surface Pro. The ports are:
• 1x USB 3.0 port
• 1x microSDXC card reader
• 1x Headphone jack 3.5mm
• 1x Surface Connect (for power and docking)
• 1x mini DisplayPort
• 1x Cover port
Unfortunately, this Surface Pro does not have USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 which much complete the most notebook today for supporting USB-C for connectivity and charging.
As for the connectivity, this detachable tablet has 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1 technology.
As a tablet with 12.3-inches screen, surely it is very portable. Microsoft Surface Pro has a dimension of 11.5 x 7.9 x 0.33 inches while the weight is depend on the processor used. Below is the weight of Microsoft Surface Pro :
m3: 1.69 lbs (768 g)
i5: 1.70 lbs (770 g)
i7: 1.73 lbs (784 g)
Very portable, right? This is suitable for people with high mobility such as traveling businessmen, field professional, college student and traveler. It is also suitable for home/office use.
The battery life also supports it to be traveling device. The battery may last up to 13 hours until it needs to recharge again.
The last, Microsoft Surface Pro is a performance-oriented laptop and one of the top hybrids laptop. It comes with several configurations to meets the needs of market and all of them are powerful machines. Aside, it has brilliant screen, excellent quality and long battery life.
You’ll need to budget for the Type Cover and Surface Pen, and, admittedly, they are expensive enough.
Indeed, the Surface Pro is a fantastic machine; however I feel that it is not enough of an improvement than its prior, Surface Pro 4. But hopefully that the next Surface Pro will come with bigger changes.
